Kindergarten Extension

The afternoon extension program is available to children over five years old who are also enrolled in a morning kindergarten class through Coe Elementary school.  Our goal is to provide a quality program for your child with fun, educational activities and a relaxed social time with their friends.

Daily Schedule

Kindergarten children start their afternoon with a circle time then lunch together in the school cafeteria. After, they meet back together and rotate through work stations.  Available each afternoon is reading, numbers, group art, social studies, science and writing.  Recess is next, then their choice: building sets, computer work, tools or a group art project.  Children end their day with recess and snack then at 3:00 PM it's time to leave for home or stay for afternoon child care.

Weekly Activities

Children enrolled in Kindergarten Extension will enjoy a variety of academic and playful activities including art class, language games, math concepts, field trips into the community and lots of hands-on learning.  For example, one activity may be using tools to take apart an old VCR.  Children discover motors, pulleys, gears and levers - a fun way to explore engineering and analytical thinking.  Discussions around the table would include recycling and other uses for the parts they find.

Small class size and independent learning help enrich the school experience for these young children.  Staff gently encourages a child's success in developing positive social skills and good learning habits.  Teachers are trained to pay close attention to the skill levels and learning style of each student.  All of this happens in a fun, comfortable place.

Registration for Kindergarten Extension

• Before enrolling in our Kindergarten Extension program families will first need to select half day kindergarten at Coe Elementary as their Seattle School's choice.
